Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have arrested another suspect as investigations continue into the murder of lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu, who was shot dead in Nairobi in September 2025. The latest suspect, identified as Nicholas Lemiso Naula, was apprehended on Thursday within Nairobi’s Central Business District as detectives intensified efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.
According to the DCI, Lemiso is a boda boda rider who is suspected of transporting Police Constable Julius Cheruiyot to and from the location where Mbobu was shot. Cheruiyot was also arrested on Thursday morning following a year-long investigation into the killing. Detectives allege that he was connected to the shooting and subsequently recovered a Ceska pistol that had been issued to him. A ballistic examination reportedly established that the firearm was the same weapon used in the murder of the lawyer.
Another Suspect Remains at Large
Investigators have also identified Inspector Kenneth Sang as another person of interest in the case. Sang is alleged to have coordinated the operation alongside Rose Mbithe, who is currently in custody in connection with the July 2026 murder of Dr. Victoria Nthunya Mutiso. Sang has not yet been arrested and remains at large as detectives continue pursuing him.
Mbobu Was Shot Along Magadi Road
Lawyer Mathew Kyalo Mbobu was killed on September 9, 2025, while driving home from work along Magadi Road in Nairobi. The DCI says the arrests of Lemiso and Cheruiyot form part of ongoing efforts to establish what led to the lawyer’s killing and identify everyone involved.
Both suspects remain in custody as investigators pursue additional leads and piece together the events surrounding the shooting. Authorities are expected to continue with further investigations as they seek to establish the full chain of events and determine the roles played by the individuals linked to the case.
