EACC Probes Alleged KSh5 Million Spending on Vihiga Speaker’s Housewarming Party

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched investigations into the alleged misuse of public funds amounting to KSh5 million, reportedly spent on a housewarming celebration at the residence of the Speaker of the Vihiga County Assembly. The probe signals heightened scrutiny over how county resources are utilised, particularly concerning non-official events.

EACC Seeks Key Financial Documents

In a formal communication dated February 12, 2026, the anti-graft agency wrote to the Clerk of the Vihiga County Assembly requesting the immediate submission of documents to support the investigation. Among the records requested are:

  • Original or certified requisitions from the user department
  • Approved budgets for the 2023/2024 financial year (or any relevant period)
  • Procurement documentation
  • Payment vouchers and expenditure records
  • Any additional supporting materials linked to the event

The documents are expected to help investigators establish whether public procurement and spending procedures were followed.

Deadline Issued for Submission

According to the letter, the commission set a strict deadline for compliance, directing that the requested documents be submitted by February 13, 2026. The correspondence was signed by Abraham Kemboi, EACC Regional Manager for Central Nyanza, who indicated that authorised officers would be available to receive the materials. Named officers assigned to the matter include Brian Shigoli and Kevin Lagat, alongside any other officials designated by the commission.

Focus on Accountability in County Spending

The investigation forms part of EACC’s broader mandate to enforce integrity in public service and ensure taxpayer funds are used lawfully. Should the probe uncover financial impropriety, those found culpable could face administrative or legal consequences in line with Kenya’s anti-corruption laws.
