Football has been plunged into mourning following the death of CD Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel, who passed away aged 30 after suffering serious injuries in a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono during a Spanish second-division match. De Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, a day after the incident occurred during a league encounter between Tenerife and Andorra at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López Stadium in Spain.

The collision happened during stoppage time when Owono rushed out of his goal to challenge De Miguel for the ball. The impact left the Tenerife forward unconscious, prompting players from both teams to immediately call for medical assistance. Owono was shown a straight red card following the incident, while the match was abandoned with the score level at 2-2.

Medical personnel attended to De Miguel before he was rushed to hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. Tenerife initially reported that he was in a serious but stable condition before later announcing that his neurological condition had deteriorated. The club confirmed his death early Tuesday morning, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the 30-year-old forward.

The club also appealed for privacy for the bereaved family as messages of condolence continued to arrive from across the football community.

FC Andorra also expressed its sadness, sending condolences to De Miguel’s family, friends and everyone associated with Tenerife. Former Barcelona defender Gerard Piqué, who is a major shareholder of FC Andorra, also paid tribute to the late striker, expressing his sorrow over the tragedy. Other major European clubs, including Real Madrid and Barcelona, joined the tributes, while UEFA announced that moments of silence would be observed before European matches in his honour. The Spanish Football Federation also postponed several scheduled cup fixtures as a mark of respect.

Who Was Jesús de Miguel?

Born in Madrid on September 21, 1996, De Miguel built his football career through several Spanish clubs before establishing himself as a professional striker.
