Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has stirred fresh political debate after claiming that the proposed establishment of an Ebola quarantine facility at the Laikipia Air Base in Nanyuki is part of a wider scheme targeting the Mt Kenya region.

Speaking during a recent address, Gachagua alleged that the plan, which involves setting up a health facility to manage potential Ebola outbreaks, is not purely a public health initiative. Instead, he argued that it raises serious concerns among residents of the Mt Kenya region, whom he claims could be adversely affected.

The remarks come amid ongoing discussions about the government’s decision to collaborate with international partners in strengthening disease preparedness and response infrastructure. Authorities have maintained that such facilities are essential in managing regional health threats and safeguarding public safety.

However, Gachagua’s claims have added a political dimension to the matter, with leaders and stakeholders now divided over the intentions and implications of the project. While some have dismissed the allegations as unfounded, others are calling for greater transparency and public engagement on the issue. As the debate continues, the proposed facility remains at the center of a growing conversation on public health, national security, and regional interests.
