Attention now shifts to the High Court today as a three-judge bench is set to issue its highly anticipated ruling on the impeachment case involving former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The judgment comes nearly 20 months after the Senate voted to remove Gachagua from office and is expected to determine whether that decision will be upheld or overturned.

Gachagua has challenged the impeachment process in court, arguing that it was unconstitutional and failed to meet the required legal standards. He maintains that he was denied a fair hearing during the proceedings. While he has since withdrawn his request for reinstatement, the former Deputy President is still pursuing compensation and damages, citing what he describes as an unlawful removal from office. Speaking on Sunday at a church service held at PCA Mutero Church in Nairobi, Gachagua expressed readiness to accept the court’s decision, regardless of the outcome. He voiced confidence in the country’s judicial system, saying a favorable ruling would affirm the rule of law.

At the same time, he noted that an unfavorable verdict would not mark the end of his legal battle, indicating plans to escalate the matter to the Court of Appeal if necessary. Gachagua also called on his supporters to remain peaceful and composed, urging them to avoid any form of unrest. He emphasized that any political grievances should be addressed through lawful and democratic means, particularly at the ballot. The case is being handled by a bench comprising Justices Eric Ogola, Anthony Mrima, and Frida Mugambi.
