Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has appointed Maurice Ogeta, a longtime bodyguard of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, as the Advisor for Security Affairs within the County Government of Mombasa. The appointment was announced on Thursday after the Mombasa County Public Service Board formally created the advisory positions to strengthen service delivery and governance at the county level.

Experience Cited in Security Appointment

Governor Nassir said Ogeta was selected based on his vast professional background and exposure across local, regional, and international security environments. According to the Governor, Ogeta’s service to the late ODM party leader and former Prime Minister played a key role in shaping his expertise in matters of security and public service.

The appointment is informed by his extensive experience and expertise gained at local, regional, and global levels, including his service to the late founding party leader, H.E. Raila Odinga

Creative Arts Sector Also Gets Boost

In the same round of appointments, the Governor named Ken Ambani as his Advisor on Creative Arts. Nassir said Ambani will play a critical role in efforts to revitalize Mombasa’s creative arts industry, working to nurture talent, promote cultural expression, and expand economic opportunities for artists across the county. The Governor noted that the creative economy remains a key pillar in Mombasa’s cultural identity and economic growth strategy.

Appointments Follow Raila Odinga Commemoration

The new appointments come shortly after Mombasa County hosted celebrations marking the posthumous 81st birthday of Raila Odinga. The event brought together Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders and supporters, who gathered to honor the life, legacy, and political contribution of the former Prime Minister. The appointments signal the county government’s intention to strengthen both security coordination and cultural development as it advances its governance agenda.
