Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) in Eldoret has placed one individual under a 21-day quarantine period as a precautionary measure following contact tracing involving confirmed Ebola cases. MTRH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Phillip Kirwa has reassured the public that the individual should not be presumed to have contracted the virus simply because they have been placed under observation. According to the hospital, the person was identified through contact tracing and is being monitored for any symptoms that could indicate an infection.

Dr. Kirwa explained that quarantine is a preventive public health measure intended to monitor people who may have been exposed to the virus during its incubation period. He emphasised that being placed in quarantine does not mean someone has tested positive for Ebola. The hospital indicated that the individual will remain under observation for 21 days and will be released if they do not develop symptoms during that period.

Dr. Kirwa also urged Kenyans to remain calm and avoid unnecessary panic, stressing the need to distinguish between precautionary monitoring and confirmed infections. His remarks come as Kenya continues to respond to the outbreak of the Bundibugyo virus, a strain of Ebola. The country has so far confirmed nine cases, prompting health authorities to strengthen surveillance and contact-tracing measures. Members of the public are encouraged to rely on official updates from health authorities and follow the recommended public health guidelines.
