The National Police Service (NPS) has rolled out enhanced traffic enforcement and nationwide security measures as Easter celebrations approach. With increased travel, tourism, and public gatherings expected during the holiday season, authorities are ramping up efforts to ensure safety for all.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NPS confirmed collaboration with other government agencies to safeguard locals, tourists, and Kenyans during the Easter period, which coincides with school holidays and the rainy season. To boost safety, the NPS has deployed additional officers and resources across the country. Patrols and surveillance have been intensified in high-traffic and public areas, including:

  • Shopping centers
  • Places of worship
  • Markets and transportation hubs
  • Key infrastructure points

Authorities have highlighted increased risks during the holiday due to higher volumes of travel and social activities. As part of preventive measures, the NPS is stepping up traffic law enforcement and urging compliance among:

  • Drivers
  • Boda boda riders
  • Public service vehicle operators

The police have issued strict warnings against:

  • Speeding
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Distracted driving
  • Vehicle overloading

Pedestrians are also advised to stay alert and use designated crossing points.

Shared Responsibility for Safety

The NPS emphasised that ensuring road safety and public security is a collective responsibility. Officers remain committed to protecting lives and property throughout the holiday season, urging everyone to adhere to traffic rules and safety guidelines. With holiday travel and celebrations expected to peak, the NPS is taking proactive steps to reduce accidents, prevent crime, and maintain public order. Compliance with traffic laws and safety measures will be key to a secure and peaceful Easter period.
