
Preparations are in progress for the final send-off of veteran broadcaster and former State Master of Ceremonies (MC) Sammy Lui, who passed away on Thursday at his home in Subukia, Nakuru County.
According to a family statement, Lui’s body will be transferred from Nakuru to Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi on Saturday, ahead of a prayer meeting scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the family’s home.
On Monday, friends and family will gather at Lee Funeral Home for a viewing and prayer service before the cortege proceeds to Kariokor Crematorium. A brief service will be held there prior to the cremation. The specific cremation time will be announced later.
Sammy Lui was widely regarded as one of Kenya’s most iconic voices during the late President Mwai Kibaki’s administration, remembered for his eloquence, professionalism, and commanding presence throughout his decades-long broadcasting career.

In his message of condolence, President William Ruto described the late Lui as “a dedicated public servant, a veteran broadcaster, and a respected State Master of Ceremonies whose voice became part of Kenya’s national identity.”
From his early days as one of Kenya’s pioneer journalists at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) to his distinguished service at the Presidential Press Service, and later as Director of State Events, Lui’s career reflected decades of dedication to public communication and national service.
