President William Ruto has extended an invitation to Arsenal Football Club to visit Kenya in 2027, following massive celebrations across the country after the club secured the English Premier League title. A known Arsenal supporter, Ruto said the nationwide celebrations reflected the strong bond between the English club and its Kenyan fanbase. He noted that the scenes witnessed in Nairobi highlighted just how deeply football resonates with Kenyans.

According to the President, hosting Arsenal would not only be a major sporting event but also an opportunity to inspire young people across the country who look up to the club and its players. The invitation comes in the wake of widespread celebrations, particularly in Nairobi, where fans took to the streets to mark the club’s long-awaited victory. Major roads, including Moi Avenue, were filled with jubilant supporters dressed in Arsenal colours, singing and waving flags in celebration of the historic win.

For many Kenyan fans, the triumph symbolised the end of a 22-year wait marked by resilience and loyalty. Arsenal enjoys a broad following in Kenya, cutting across different sectors of society, including leaders, entertainers and sports personalities. Among the club’s prominent Kenyan supporters are President Ruto, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula, musician King Kaka and media personality Carol Radull.

Celebrations later moved to Nyayo National Stadium, where fans organized a derby match between Arsenal and Manchester United supporters. The event attracted thousands, showcasing the country’s vibrant football culture. Former Harambee Stars coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee, who oversaw the Arsenal supporters’ team, praised the turnout, noting that it demonstrated the passion Kenyan fans have for international football.

Beyond the celebrations, Arsenal’s presence in Kenya is strengthened by organised fan groups spread across the country, bringing together supporters united by their love for the club. If the club accepts the invitation, the proposed 2027 visit could become one of the most significant football events ever held in Kenya, giving fans a rare chance to see their favourite team up close.
