A routine phone delivery turned into a horrific tragedy after 30-year-old father of three, Antony Otieno, was found dead inside Meridian Apartments in South B, Nairobi. Police believe the incident was a carefully orchestrated setup involving a fake online order.
A Delivery That Turned Deadly
Antony, a delivery rider, left a shop in Nairobi’s CBD at around 10:30 a.m. to deliver a brand-new iPhone 17 Pro Max. The order had been placed via WhatsApp by a man who claimed to be in Eldoret and provided the number 0108577041, saying his brother, Hillary, would pick up the phone from a temporary stay apartment in South B. It was a standard “deliver-before-payment” arrangement—one that Antony had handled many times before. Unfortunately, this would be his last assignment.
Discovery at Meridian Apartments
After hours of silence, concern grew. Later that day, Antony’s body was discovered inside house number 14 on the fourth floor of the building. He had been restrained, and preliminary findings suggested he had been attacked after entering the apartment. A leso had been tied around his mouth, and investigators concluded that he died from head injuries.
Inside the room, detectives found a knife, a metal rod believed to have been used in the attack, and the same phone Antony was delivering. His motorcycle, registration KMFH 161S, was still parked outside the building.
Suspicious Booking Raises Questions
The apartment had been booked earlier that morning by two unidentified men who paid KSh 2,500 in cash. According to the Airbnb host, Charity Muthoni Michoki, she was informed around 9:30 a.m. that the bill would be settled later in the day.
When she went to check on the room, she was told to wait. After sensing something was wrong, she sought help from neighbors. Upon gaining access to the apartment, they came upon the tragic scene and alerted authorities.
Investigations Underway
Police have forwarded the two phone numbers involved—0108577041 and 0783041879—to Safaricom for identity tracing. Detectives believe the suspects lured Antony using a fraudulent high-value transaction before attacking him inside the unit.
As Antony’s family grapples with the loss of a husband, father, and dedicated worker, investigators are calling on members of the public who may have information to come forward.
Ongoing Search for Suspects
The search for the perpetrators continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the killing. The incident has raised fresh concerns over the safety of delivery workers handling high-value items in Nairobi.
