Kenya Airways (KQ) will operate repatriation flights from Nairobi to Dubai on March 4, 2026, and return flights from Dubai to Nairobi on March 5, 2026, following slot approvals from Dubai Airport Management. The move comes after guidance from United Arab Emirates (UAE) authorities, which allowed limited operations at Dubai International Airport from March 2, 2026, permitting only a small number of flights to operate.
Flights Strictly for Repatriation
Kenya Airways clarified that these are not regular scheduled flights. The operations are strictly for repatriation purposes, targeting customers who are citizens or residents of the UAE. Customers in Dubai were urged not to proceed to the airport until a confirmed departure date and time is communicated. Travellers are also advised to check their flight status on the Kenya Airways website and update their contact information through the Manage Booking option to receive timely updates. KQ apologised for any inconvenience, assuring that crew and customer safety remains the airline’s highest priority.
Suspension of Regular Flights
Kenya Airways reiterated that regular scheduled flights to Dubai have not resumed. The airline will provide updates once further approvals are granted by UAE authorities. The temporary suspension of flights to Dubai began on February 28, 2026, following the closure of UAE airspace due to escalating regional tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran.
Regional Security Context
On February 28, 2026, the US and Israel launched missile strikes targeting Iran, resulting in the deaths of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and senior officials. Despite ongoing nuclear negotiations, Iran vowed retaliation, striking Israel and several Gulf nations hosting US military assets, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain. The resumption of repatriation flights reflects efforts to safely facilitate travel for stranded passengers amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions.
