Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has officially left the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and announced his move to the opposition ahead of the 2027 General Election. Nyoro made the announcement on Monday at Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi, where he confirmed that he and his supporters had joined the People’s Party of Kenya.

The lawmaker said the decision followed nearly a year of consultations with various political leaders as he sought to determine the direction he believed would best serve Kenyans. Among the leaders he consulted were former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua, former Cabinet Secretaries Peter Munya and Fred Matiang’i, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Siaya Governor James Orengo.

Nyoro said his time in government had allowed him to assess the country’s performance across different sectors and identify areas that require improvement. He noted that his political decision was guided by the interests of Kenyans and his desire to see the country make progress after the 2027 elections.

Nyoro Announces Nationwide Political Tours

The Kiharu MP also announced plans to embark on political tours across the country as he begins his new role in the opposition. He said his initial visits would include Uasin Gishu, Kericho and Nandi, where he intends to engage residents and discuss the performance of the government elected in 2022.

Nyoro urged Kenyans to consider the People’s Party of Kenya alongside other opposition parties as they evaluate potential leaders ahead of the 2027 polls. He also suggested that opposition parties could work together and form alliances with like-minded political formations ahead of the election.

Nyoro Takes Aim at UDA

Nyoro also criticised his former party, UDA, which he referred to as the “wheelbarrow party”. He claimed that he and his supporters had already distanced themselves from the ruling party before formally announcing their move into the opposition.

The MP said his decision to leave UDA was informed partly by his dissatisfaction with the party and the direction of the government.

Former Kenya Kwanza Ally Joins Opposition

Nyoro was elected Kiharu MP on a UDA ticket during the 2022 General Election and became one of the prominent voices associated with the Kenya Kwanza administration. His move to the opposition marks a significant shift in his political positioning ahead of the 2027 elections.

Several opposition leaders attended the announcement at Safari Park Hotel, including Siaya Governor James Orengo, Wundanyi MP Danson Mwashako and Senator Okong’o Omogeni. Nyoro said his political journey would now focus on engaging Kenyans across the country while working with other opposition players to determine the direction of the country ahead of the next General Election.
