Kindiki Defends His Position as Deputy President, Says Removal Is ‘Impossible’

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has strongly defended his position in government, insisting that removing him from office would be “impossible.” Speaking on Friday during a meeting with United Democratic Alliance (UDA) polling centre officials in Tharaka Nithi County, Kindiki appeared to draw comparisons between President William Ruto’s political fallout with former President Uhuru Kenyatta and his current position as Deputy President.

Kindiki recalled how Ruto remained in office despite political differences with Uhuru during their final years in government. He said attempts to push Ruto out of office failed because his supporters remained firm until the end of their political partnership.

Kindiki appeared to take a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who was removed from office through an impeachment process in 2024. He questioned how a Deputy President could be removed from office, suggesting that such an outcome was unlikely under the current political arrangement.

His remarks come amid renewed political discussions surrounding the Deputy President’s position ahead of the 2027 General Election, as parties and political leaders continue to negotiate possible alliances.
