Security has been heightened at Mogondor Centre in Emurua Dikirr, Narok County, ahead of a political rally by Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua. The former Deputy President is expected to address residents as he continues his political activities across the region.
Gachagua and his team earlier visited the family of the late Johana Ngeno, where they paid their respects and offered condolences to the former MP’s mother. Police officers have been deployed around Mogondor Centre as residents and supporters prepare for Gachagua’s arrival. The heightened security comes amid growing concerns over violence reported at political gatherings across the country.
Last week, Gachagua’s convoy was reportedly attacked in Nakuru County during his ongoing regional tours. The DCP leader subsequently said he would continue with his political engagements despite what he described as attempts to disrupt his activities. The latest developments have also sparked calls for international scrutiny over political violence in Kenya.
On Wednesday, the United Alternative Government called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor to consider action following recent incidents of violence linked to political rallies. Speaking on behalf of the United Opposition, People’s Liberation Party leader Martha Karua cited attacks targeting opposition politicians and questioned how such incidents could take place under the watch of the government.
Karua further called for a review of previous allegations involving President William Ruto and urged the ICC to consider whether there were grounds for reopening the matter.
