NTSA Suspends Several Public Transport Operators Over Safety Violations

Zilper Ochieng

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended multiple public transport operators for failing to comply with road safety regulations and persistently violating traffic laws. In a statement released on Monday, the Authority said the affected companies breached conditions set for public service vehicles (PSVs), including failure to meet safety standards under the Traffic Act and NTSA regulations. Some of the operators were also linked to fatal road crashes recorded during the December 2025 festive season. NTSA said the suspensions take effect immediately as part of intensified enforcement measures aimed at enhancing road safety.

Guardian Coach Limited

Guardian Coach Limited was cited following a road accident that occurred on January 6, 2026, at the Kimende area along the Nairobi–Naivasha Highway. NTSA directed the company to present 24 vehicles flagged for various violations for compliance inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre and submit the inspection report to the Authority. Additionally, the driving licences of 18 drivers were suspended for 90 days due to speeding violations. The drivers will be required to undergo a re-test before resuming duty. The company has been given 21 days to comply with the outlined conditions, failure to which its operating licence will be revoked.

Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd

NTSA ordered Nanyuki Express Cab Services Ltd to present 128 vehicles with recorded violations for inspection at the Nyeri Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre. The Authority also suspended the licences of 26 drivers for 90 days over speeding offences, pending a mandatory re-test. The company has been given 21 days to comply, or risk losing its licence.

Monna Comfort Sacco

Monna Comfort Sacco was instructed to present all 19 vehicles cited for violations at the Nakuru Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre. At the same time, NTSA suspended the licences of 26 drivers for breaching speed limits. The Authority resolved to suspend the Sacco’s operations until full compliance is achieved.

Greenline Company Ltd

Greenline Company Ltd was ordered to present 33 vehicles with violations at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre. NTSA also suspended 29 drivers’ licences for speeding offences and resolved to halt the company’s operations with immediate effect.

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd

Naekana Route 134 Sacco Ltd was directed to present 128 vehicles for inspection at the Likoni and Machakos Motor Vehicle Inspection Centres. The licences of 18 drivers involved in speeding violations were suspended for 90 days pending a re-test. NTSA further suspended the Sacco’s operations.

Uwezo Coast Shuttle

Uwezo Coast Shuttle was suspended from all operations until further notice after failing to honour summons issued by NTSA.

NTSA Issues Warning

NTSA said the suspensions are part of ongoing efforts to reduce road accidents involving public transport vehicles, noting that non-compliant operators pose a serious risk to passengers and other road users. The regulator directed all suspended operators to cease operations until they fully comply with the law, warning that continued violations could attract harsher penalties, including de-registration.

NTSA also urged members of the public to avoid boarding vehicles belonging to suspended operators and encouraged passengers to verify the status of public service vehicles before travelling. The latest crackdown comes as NTSA intensifies its campaign to improve discipline, compliance, and safety within the public transport sector.
