“Our focus on providing psychological support and creating safe environments for women and children remains a top priority. With guidance from my women’s rights advisor, we are set to launch the Safe Home, Safe Space campaign during this upcoming 16-day activism period against gender-based violence,”.
He further emphasized the urgent need for community education on recognizing signs of abuse and the availability of resources for victims. Highlighting the dangers that women encounter on social media, he urged the public to exercise caution and use these platforms responsibly.
Social media has become a risky arena for exploitation. I strongly encourage our youth to be wary when interacting with strangers online. Parents, schools, religious organizations, and community groups must unite to empower our young people with essential skills and guidance,”
In outlining the steps his administration will take, the president called upon law enforcement to act promptly in holding offenders accountable.
“I have charged the criminal justice system to perform its duties without hesitation, ensuring that perpetrators are held responsible for their actions. We will bolster gender desks at police stations and introduce similar services in hospitals to guarantee that victims receive immediate assistance,”
In addition to these efforts, President Ruto appealed to all Kenyans to take part in the campaign, encouraging them to educate their communities about gender-based violence.
I invite every citizen to join this vital movement. As a father of four daughters, I emphasize the crucial role parents play. Be present and open with your children. A strong and supportive family is our first line of defense against the threats posed by society,”
As we move forward, it’s essential for us all to recognize our roles in this fight against gender-based violence. The Safe Home, Safe Space campaign marks a promising step towards a safer future for women and children across the country. Let’s come together to support this cause and create a society where everyone can thrive without fear.
