After weeks of anticipation, Kenya has officially settled the required hosting fee for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), signaling a major step forward in its co-hosting ambitions. The government confirmed that all financial obligations set by the Confederation of African Football have now been fulfilled.
According to Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya, the payment of USD 30 million (approximately KSh 3.9 billion) marks a significant milestone in Kenya’s preparations. He noted that the country has now met both financial and institutional requirements, strengthening its position as a co-host for AFCON 2027 under the regional “Pamoja” bid.
The government has also restructured the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), bringing together expertise from both the public and private sectors.
