The National Police Service (NPS) has launched investigations into the disruption of a post-budget meeting at All Saints’ Cathedral in Nairobi on Friday, June 12. In a statement issued on Sunday, the police confirmed that two suspects are currently in custody as officers continue to review CCTV footage to establish the full sequence of events.

Authorities have also appealed to members of the public to share any information that could assist with the investigations by reporting to the nearest police station. The NPS assured that the matter will be handled with professionalism and transparency to ensure all those responsible are brought to justice. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with the National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) urging the Inspector General of Police to ensure those behind the attack are arrested and prosecuted.

CCTV footage shows that the disturbance began at the church entrance, where a group of individuals confronted security personnel before forcing their way into the compound. The group then made its way toward the conference section, where a budget review meeting was underway. At around 9:39 a.m., several motorcycles carrying two to three individuals each entered the premises, with their faces and registration plates visible on camera.

Within minutes, police officers responded and managed to push the group out toward Valley Road by approximately 9:44 a.m. As they retreated, the suspects allegedly attacked pedestrians along Kenyatta Avenue, robbing some in broad daylight while heading toward Valley Road.

However, the situation escalated further when the group returned at about 10:11 a.m., this time on foot after abandoning their motorcycles. Surveillance footage captured them re-entering the compound and heading toward the conference area. Inside the building, several individuals were reportedly robbed, including participants on the second floor. One victim was accosted while attempting to escape to a higher floor, while another was cornered as police officers moved in to restore order.

The attackers also disrupted proceedings by chanting slogans, forcing the temporary suspension of the meeting. A gunshot was later heard outside the premises, believed to have been fired in an effort to disperse the group. Investigations remain ongoing as authorities work to identify all those involved and determine the motive behind the attack.
