The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested a former Deputy Director of Audit at the Office of the Auditor General over claims that she used fake academic credentials to secure her job. According to the EACC, the arrest follows investigations into the alleged use of a forged university degree. The suspect is accused of presenting a Bachelor of Commerce certificate when applying for the position of Assistant Manager – Audit.
The commission stated that the document indicated she had earned a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting Option), Second Class Honours (Upper Division). However, investigations reportedly revealed that she had not completed her studies at the time and was still a student.
Charges Approved
After completing investigations, the EACC forwarded the case to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), which approved several charges against the suspect, including:
- Forgery
- Uttering a false document
- Deceiving a principal
- Fraudulent acquisition of public property
She is expected to appear before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to enter her plea.
This arrest comes months after a similar incident involving another former employee at the Office of the Auditor General. In that case, the EACC reported that the individual allegedly forged a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate from a secondary school and used it to gain employment. The fraudulent documents were discovered during a review of the employee’s academic qualifications.
The commission reiterated its commitment to cracking down on individuals who use fake academic documents to secure public jobs, warning that such actions undermine integrity in public service.
