The High Court has extended interim injunction orders in a corruption-related civil case involving Kiambu Governor Paul Kimani Wamatangi, as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) pursues the recovery of Ksh813 million alleged to be proceeds of corruption. The matter came up on Wednesday before Justice Hedwig Okwany at the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Division, where the court issued directions on an application filed by the EACC earlier this month.
Court Allows Extension of Interim Orders
The anti-graft agency asked the court to extend existing orders restraining the defendants from selling, transferring or otherwise dealing with the disputed assets until the case is fully heard and determined. Justice Okwany granted the request, extending the injunctions until March 17, 2026. The court also ordered all parties to exchange written submissions on the application, giving each side 14 days to file and serve their documents.
Additional Applications to Be Heard
During the proceedings, the court granted parties permission to respond to a separate application filed by the first defendant seeking to strike out the suit. The judge directed that any related pleadings be filed within the set timelines. The case is scheduled for mention on March 17, 2026, before Justice Musyoki for further directions. The court further ordered that the extracted rulings be formally served on all parties involved.
EACC Seeks Forfeiture of Alleged Proceeds of Corruption
The EACC has sued Governor Wamatangi and other respondents, alleging that the Ksh813 million in question was unlawfully acquired and should be forfeited to the state. The commission maintains that the funds constitute proceeds of corruption under anti-graft laws. The case remains ongoing as the court considers the competing applications.
