Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has issued a seven-day public notice calling on families and relatives to come forward and identify and collect 85 unclaimed bodies currently being held at the hospital. The hospital is urging members of the public who may have missing relatives or friends to check with the facility and assist in establishing the identities of the deceased.
According to the notice, the seven-day period will provide an opportunity for families to identify the bodies and make the necessary arrangements for their collection. KNH has warned that once the notice period expires, it will seek the relevant authority to dispose of the unclaimed bodies in accordance with the applicable procedures.
The notice is therefore intended to give families sufficient time to come forward before the hospital takes the next step regarding the bodies. Members of the public with information that could help identify any of the deceased are encouraged to contact Kenyatta National Hospital within the seven-day notice period.
The move comes as hospitals continue to deal with bodies that remain unclaimed for extended periods, creating challenges in managing mortuary space and ensuring proper handling of deceased persons. Families who suspect that a missing relative may be among those being held at the hospital are advised to act within the stated period to facilitate identification and collection.
