Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania are set to hold a crucial high-level meeting next Thursday as they begin laying out a clear roadmap for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which the three nations will co-host. The summit, dubbed the ‘Pamoja’ meeting, will bring together senior government officials from the three countries to align on key preparations ahead of the continental tournament.
Speaking in Nairobi, Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya said the meeting will tackle critical areas necessary for a smooth and successful tournament. Among the key issues to be discussed are visa facilitation for fans and teams, as well as tax exemptions to support operations and investments tied to the event. He emphasized that the summit will help shape decisions that will guide the hosting framework for the three East African nations.
Mvurya made the remarks while hosting Samson Adamu at Talanta Plaza in Nairobi, where he reaffirmed Kenya’s readiness to stage a world-class competition. He noted that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will play a central role in coordinating the tournament and helping unveil the official roadmap for AFCON 2027.
The Cabinet Secretary reiterated that Kenya is fully committed to delivering a successful tournament, adding that extensive preparations are already underway. He also revealed that the government had held a courtesy meeting with the CAF official to congratulate him on his appointment and to strengthen collaboration ahead of the event.
During the event, Mvurya presided over the official handover of the AFCON 2027 Local Organizing Committee. The team will be led by chairperson Nicholas Musonye, with Antony Lungaho taking over as CEO. The new leadership is expected to spearhead preparations and coordinate efforts across the three host nations.
Mvurya also took the opportunity to commend the CHAN 2025 organizing team, led by CEO Mike Rabar, for successfully delivering the tournament. He praised their efforts in boosting Kenya’s reputation both regionally and globally, noting that their success sets a strong foundation for AFCON 2027.
